About the position

We are looking for a passionate and innovative software engineer to join Traffic Foundation within Walmart’s Global Technology Platform group. Traffic Foundation is empowering application teams at Walmart to reach their customers in the fastest, most efficient way possible. We build and design systems handling millions of requests per second, play a critical role in scaling Walmart systems under the extremely high-traffic situations, and provide tools to accelerate, secure, and distribute traffic to all the right places. In this role, you will get to design and build high-performance, distributed systems, at massive scale. Working with teams across E-Commerce, Stores, and everything in between to make Walmart technology the fastest and most resilient in the industry. This critical role will be responsible for leading and participating in medium to large scale, complex, cross functional projects. Capable of taking complex problem domains, dissecting them until they’re well understood and delivering excellently engineered solutions. Responsibilities

  • Involved in planning of system, development, and deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards
  • Drives technical vision and influences product roadmap and vision
  • Implement large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects
  • Leads the discovery phase of large projects to develop high level design
  • Supervise the work of cross-functional groups of engineers, including offshore associates
  • Directs root cause analysis of critical business and production issues
  • Supports business objectives and ensures the business needs are being met
  • Develops Innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams; partnering with cross-functional teams across the business; developing assessments of key opportunities; documenting project scopes; developing long-range plans and project timelines; communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives within the organization; and resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering
  • Experience building Layer 4 and 7 orchestration/routing/load balancing systems
  • Managed systems with >1K servers
  • Built high-performance HTTP proxies and caches
  • Experience with cloud (Azure/Go preferred)
  • DevOps experience
  • Clear understanding of TCP/HTTP request/response protocols/lifecycle
  • 4+ Experience in a language such as Go/C/C++/Java
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of business and technical stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing technical documentation
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
